The Triangle Y Soccer Club’s U15 Girls Lightning soccer team finished off their season by participating in the 2013 McGee’s Crossroads Tournament - Battle at the Crossroads on May 4-5. Entering the tournament with a 6-0-1 record, Lightning was able to pull off shut outs in all four of their games of the tournament. In the championship game of the tournament, the battle was epic through the final seconds. With 30 seconds left in regulation play and the score 0-0, Hailey Vtipil maneuvered around one defender, putting her between the keeper and the goal. With one determined move against the charging keeper, Hailey was able to get one final touch on the ball to score the only goal with 10 seconds left. Lightning wins the game 1-0.

A tribute for Sandy Hook
Holly Springs resident, Michelle McElroy, created a luminary tribute to the 26 victims in Newtown, Conn. As an artist, and a childhood friend of 6-year-old Benjamin Wheeler’s mother, McElroy felt the need to use her skills to create a lighted art installation in the shape of a heart on her front lawn. Since it was installed on Christmas Eve, hundreds of cars have driven by the display. Her mission was for people to remember the victims and their families during the holidays and start of the New Year.
