As many will be comparing Phil Mickelson's life and career at this stage with that of Tiger Woods, the measuring stick of winning another major championship while facing adversity will be lengthened by Phil's fans and admirers.
Tiger did not play his best, but he still made spectacular shots to finish five strokes behind Mickelson and tied for fourth overall at -11. How many others on the PGA Tour can do that while dealing with the turmoil and circumstances he created and has been involved with in trying to overcome them?
Phil's accomplishment is just as monumental and meaningfull as his wife Amy has been battling against breast cancer since last year. It was an emotional moment as Phil embraced his wife for a long while as the moment and everything that they have endured so far sunk in for them and everyone watching.
Chalk another one up for the 'good guy' who made it all count with his own style of excitement on the golf course. However, don't count Woods out as he will be back and together he, Phil, and young stars such as Anthony Kim and Bill Haas will carry the Tour to new lofts that it hasn't seen.
