The Town's proclamation on May 3 kicks off KA Day activities; however, Kiwanians are already working hard. This year there will be a "Terrific Kids" and "Terrific Teacher" awards ceremony sponsored by BB&T with Mayor Dick Sears as the emcee. Holly Springs' elementary, middle and high schools have been asked to identify recipients of the awards.
Also part of the event is the "Friends of Youth" raffle. Raffle items are donated by vendors, Holly Springs' businesses, and sponsors. Last year there were over 30 raffle items.
All children get a free piece of NY Pizza, a free Pelican snow ball, and one "Friends of Youth" raffle ticket at the event. They will be entertained by the Holly Springs Community Band with several blow-up rides, face painting, and vendor activities/handouts available throughout the site. Additional refreshment and raffle tickets will be sold at the event.
KA Day was founded in 2002 as a fundraiser for Kiwanis youth projects in Holly Springs. The event brings together Holly Springs' schools, businesses, and families to celebrate the end of the school year. With the support of Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department, Holly Springs Public Safety department, the business community, the schools' administration, parents, and the kids, it has grown into a popular family event every year with about 2,000 attendees and over 30 vendors who have arts projects and/or goodies for children.
The sponsorship and event funds will be used to support KA Day and Kiwanis youth initiatives in Holly Springs for the 2011/2012. Youth initiatives such as scholarships for disadvantaged kids, dictionaries for elementary school kids, and the Holly Springs and Middle Creek high schools' key clubs to name a few.

The Kiwanis high school Key Club members also volunteer their time for community events as do other youth groups, such as the Mayor's Youth Advisory Board.
All individuals, organizations, or businesses interested in taking part in this end-of-school year community celebration are invited to sign up to be a vendor or become a sponsor of the event. There is no vendor fee, but you must register and there are some restrictions. Sponsor funds are welcome and encouraged!
